Have you noticed your hair thinning over time? Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) hair treatment offers a solution and is among the services provided by Richard Schultz, MD, of Brookings Diseases of the Skin and Esthetics in Harbor, Oregon. Curious about how PRF hair treatment might help you? Call or click today to schedule a face-to-face consultation.
Platelet-rich fibrin is a powerful solution made from a small sample of your own blood. Sometimes referred to as “next-generation PRP,” PRF is a concentrated solution rich in growth factors, cytokines, and other cells that promote new tissue growth.
When injected into areas of the scalp where hair loss occurs, PRF reduces inflammation while also improving circulation and enhancing new cell development. Treatments can prompt your body to produce new hair naturally.
PRF is also used in numerous other medical and esthetics applications, including joint health, dental treatments, and skin enhancement services.
Like platelet-rich plasma, creating PRF begins with a simple blood draw, similar to the process of having blood drawn for routine health screenings. The process takes just moments, and it is not painful.
That small volume of blood goes into a device called a centrifuge which spins it at a high rate of speed, causing the solid components to separate from the liquid plasma. Your practitioner extracts the platelets and fibrin, combining these elements to create a concentrated solution.
Once the solution is ready, Dr. Schultz uses a thin needle to inject small volumes of the solution into your scalp. A grid-like pattern ensures even coverage. You may feel a slight pinching sensation during the injection process, but there is no significant pain. Treating large areas of your scalp only takes a few moments, and the entire process usually takes less than an hour.
Some minor soreness, redness, or swelling is normal in the hours following your treatment. Over-the-counter pain medication can soothe discomfort. There is no need to limit your activities following PRF hair restoration.
PRF hair treatment works by promoting new hair growth. That process takes time, just as your normal hair growth is a gradual process. You should expect to see increased hair growth and thickness within a few months.
Often, a series of treatments spaced out over time is the best way to achieve optimal results. During your consultation, Dr. Schultz explains what to expect in terms of the number of treatments and the treatment timeline.
If you’re ready to explore PRF hair treatment in greater detail, booking a consultation is the best place to begin. You can schedule your visit online, or you’re always welcome to call the office regarding appointment availability.
